Epithets

My name is Sophia Jensen, I am originally from Rexburg, Idaho and I am a junior studying Mathematics Education here at BYU! I come from a darling family of six girls (picture below!), and my husband and I (top picture) are now expecting our first baby in August. In coming up with these four epithets to describe me, I thought about things that bring me joy in life, so here is what I came up with:

Peace Seeker
I am most content when the world holds still and I am able to calm down with nothing to do. This quarantine has been terribly inconvenient in a lot of ways, but has also given me the opportunity to breathe and take time for hobbies I've always wanted to try, but haven't had the time. I've developed a love of reading, embroidery, and coloring these past few weeks, and am excited to see what else I can pick up.

Musical Fingers
My high school years were filled with piano competitions, scholarship contests, and every sort of performance or recital you could possibly imagine. In college I haven't played competitively, but have kept up the practicing because music gives me that same peace I find in other hobbies, as well as allows me to express feelings I'm not sure how to describe.

Lover of Order
Everything in my life is very tidy and organized. I love to have a place for things, and to keep them there. I make sure to write everything down, keep to-do lists, and put things back where they go after using them. There is something so satisfying to me about little rows of similarly-sized objects and stacks of neatly-folded towels.

Content Observer
I am always happy to watch, to listen, and to sit back. I enjoy noticing people and things rather than interacting with them, since I'm not always sure how to begin saying something. I think I'm happiest when the action happens around me, rather than because of me.

  1. i also love the peace and serenity of having "nothing to do". it's nice to be able to choose exactly what i want to do without a grade or time limit placed on it. i've also been reading more than usual and i'm enjoying that time very much. i like how you said you enjoy the action happening around you rather than because of you, and i feel the same way! i love to be in the middle of things, but i'm usually not an active participant. maybe that's why reading is such a wonderful pastime:)

  2. I have also enjoyed the time for nothing during the quarantine. People that complain about having nothing to do confuse me. I don't know if you know anything about the MBTI, but it seems like we would both be categorised as 'J'. It describes someone's tendency to plan and organise, as opposed to winging everything, the latter of which does not appeal to me.

  3. I really like how you focused on joy in your epithets. The world often throws a lot at us and it's easy to get down about all of the disadvantages we have in life, but this simple blog post was a great reminder for me to slow down and focus on what makes me happy. Many things in life would be better if we decided to block out the negative and focus on the positive. Thank you for this little reminder!

  4. First of all can I just say... your bangs are rockin. We fringe sisters have to stick together, haha! I loved your epithets, and I especially relate to "Lover of Order." I am super organized and I am always planning ahead for everything! Your epithets reminded me of the important things and how we can take advantage of less-than-ideal circumstances and find the good in them. Thank you for that. And congratulations on your baby news!

  5. I love your section about content observer. I have felt that way sometimes, especially in my family. Sometimes in this world that is so crazy, it's nice to have the talent of just observing. A lot of people forget how to do that, but it's nice to learn things that way. Also... it must be so fun to be from a family of six girls. I come from a family of 6, but only 4 of us are girls. Your family reminds me of the Bennets from Pride and Prejudice. Have you ever read that book? Best of luck as you prepare for your next family addition.
