Four Deadly Plagues

The plague mentioned in the Iliad  was brought about by the gods in response to Agamemnon's angry treatment of Chryses, and affected many Greek soldiers. The plague in Oedipus Rex  would not end until the murderer of Laius was driven out from among the people. The great plague of Athens as described in Thucydides' Histories  seemed to have no explanation, leaving people to abandon their morals and values and simply try to avoid it. All three of these plagues had very different supposed symptoms and causes, however, all three share similarities with the current pandemic raging throughout the world as a result of the COVID-19 virus. In Homer's Iliad , the cause of the plague is very clearly the work of the gods:      Agamemnon had dishonored     Chryses, Apollo's priest, so the god     Struck the Greek camp with plague,     And the soldiers were dying of it...(1.13-16) Similarly, the cause of today's coronavirus is well-known to ...

My name is Sophia Jensen, I am originally from Rexburg, Idaho and I am a junior studying Mathematics Education here at BYU! I come from a darling family of six girls (picture below!), and my husband and I (top picture) are now expecting our first baby in August. In coming up with these four epithets to describe me, I thought about things that bring me joy in life, so here is what I came up with:  Peace Seeker I am most content when the world holds still and I am able to calm down with nothing to do. This quarantine has been terribly inconvenient in a lot of ways, but has also given me the opportunity to breathe and take time for hobbies I've always wanted to try, but haven't had the time. I've developed a love of reading, embroidery, and coloring these past few weeks, and am excited to see what else I can pick up.
